Kicking Off Summer Fun Camp with Kindness, Connection, and LOTS of Play! Why preschool in the summer?

Dr. Deb Zupito

This summer is all about kindness; not just as a theme, but as a practice. We're weaving it into everything we do. From group games that encourage teamwork to craft projects centered around empathy, our camp isn’t just busy, it’s intentional.

So, why preschool in the summer?

Summer camp in a preschool setting is more than just a way to fill the calendar. It's an opportunity to strengthen vital skills in a joyful, low-pressure environment. Here's what our summer program helps nurture:

1. Social Growth in ActionPreschoolers are natural social scientists. They’re constantly experimenting with how to make friends, solve problems, and navigate group dynamics. Summer brings a fresh mix of peers, giving children the chance to practice sharing, negotiating, taking turns, and developing empathy. These skills don’t take a vacation, and summer is the perfect time to sharpen them.

2. Flexible Routines, Consistent CareWhile summer introduces more relaxed routines, the consistency of familiar teachers and expectations offers children a sense of safety. This balance helps reduce anxiety, supports transitions (like classroom changes), and keeps brains and hearts regulated and ready to engage.

3. Whole-Child LearningOur camp is jam-packed with learning disguised as fun. Water play becomes a lesson in cause and effect. A kindness bracelet craft turns into a conversation about feelings and friendship. A visit from a community helper sparks curiosity and language development. Every moment matters, and every moment builds on your child’s development.

4. Emotional Regulation in a Real-World LabLet’s be real: feelings don’t clock out in the summer. Big emotions still happen, and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s an opportunity. In the classroom and on the playground, our teachers coach children through real-time challenges, helping them develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of inner calm that will serve them well long past summer’s end.

5. Spreading Kindness (Like Sunscreen; Generously and Often)Our kindness theme is more than just a cute slogan. We’re modeling it, practicing it, and celebrating it every single day. Whether it’s helping a friend clean up or offering a kind word after a tough moment, kindness is the glue that holds our camp community together.

At LLA AND THM know childhood isn’t just about preparing for what’s next, it’s about living fully right now. Summer Fun Camp is our way of honoring that. We’re here to play hard, laugh loud, grow gently, and remind each other daily that kindness is the most important thing we can pack this summer.Stay tuned for stories that will warm your heart and maybe inspire you to spread a little kindness of your own.

Let the summer fun begin!
