Now that Teacher Appreciation Week has passed, I keep finding myself reflecting on the people who make the heart of our school beat every single day. Because appreciation for educators should never be limited to one week on the calendar. Especially in early childhood education.
Our teachers do work that is deeply important, incredibly skilled, and often unseen by the outside world. They are not simply managing classrooms or filling a child’s day. They are helping shape how children learn, connect, communicate, regulate emotions, problem solve, and build confidence in themselves and others.
They are helping grow humans.
In preschool, the smallest moments are often the biggest ones. A teacher helping a child through disappointment instead of rushing past it. A calm presence during a hard transition. A reassuring voice when emotions feel too big. A teacher modeling kindness, patience, boundaries, empathy, and repair, over and over again.
Children learn through relationships first. They watch how we respond to stress, how we speak to others, how we handle mistakes, and how we make people feel. That is why role models in early childhood matter so much.
And while the world often sees preschool as finger paint, songs, and playtime, we know better. Play is learning. Connection is learning. Co regulation is learning. Emotional safety is learning.
The science is clear that the early years matter deeply. In these years, children’s brains are developing rapidly, forming the foundation for future learning, relationships, emotional health, and resilience. The work our educators do during this stage is not “just childcare.” It is meaningful developmental work that impacts children far beyond the preschool years.
At Little Learning Academy, I have the privilege of watching educators show up every day with patience, flexibility, compassion, humor, and heart, even on the hard days. And trust me, there are days that deserve coffee IVs and honorary Olympic medals in multitasking.
So while Teacher Appreciation Week may officially be over, our appreciation is not!!!
To our teachers, support staff, administrators, and every educator helping plant seeds and strengthen roots before the branches bloom, thank you. Your work matters more than words can fully capture.
